Subchasers
Submarine chasers (or subchasers for short) were developed during World War I to combat German U-boat use then. They served in World War II to protect American harbors and escort merchant ships in the Atlantic. The subchasers were designed to be small and fast to go after the quick submarines when they surfaced. By the end of World War II, subchasers had sunk more than 60 German U-boats.
