opposed to the spread of slavery and people against the Kansas-Nebraska Act
were included in the Republican Party of 1854. Republican Party was founded in
the Northern states in 1854. by anti-slavery activists, as opposition to the
dominant Democratic Party. The first Republican President of the United States
was Abraham Lincoln.
