Pi Patel is the character we are talking about.
He is the protagonist of the novel Life of Pi, and he is telling the story of how he survived a shipwreck with a tiger named Richard Parker, a zebra which gets injured and eaten by a hyena, and an orangutan called Orange Juice. We learn this story from adult Pi, and this happened when he was a teenager.
