a plan to sabotage and destabilize the Cuban government and economy, which included the possibility of assassinating Castro
The Bay of Pigs invasion was a failed attempt to reverse the Cuban Revolution, as well as remove Fidel Castro from power. This was organized by a coalition of CIA-sponsored Cuban exiles, as well as some US military personnel.
The invasion took place on April 17, 1961, and it was launched from Guatemala and Nicaragua. It lasted only three days. The invading forces were quickly defeated by the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, under the command of Fidel Castro.
