Each family sits together. They all sit on adjacent 3 seats.  3! x 3! X 3! X 3! And they can be rearranged in 4! Ways. 

Total ways = (3!)^4 x 4!=6^4 x 24=31104 

There are 31104 ways they can be seated in a row of twelve seats
