The successors of Alexander the Great were called Diadochi. During the first 50 years after Alexander's death they fought a series of wars, named Wars of the Diadochi. The situation was stabilised more or less after the Battle of Ipsus. There were 4 main successor states. From Hellenistic period, I quote:The Antigonid dynasty in Macedon and central Greece; The Ptolemaic dynasty in Egypt based at Alexandria; The Seleucid dynasty in Syria and Mesopotamia based at Antioch; The Attalid dynasty in Anatolia based at Pergamum.
