Strep throat is surprise, surprise... And infection of the upper air and food passageways or the throat. Caused by Streptococcus, a type of bacteria, it is somewhat contagious and is present I kids a lot. Just as with any infection the most obvious symptoms include inflammation of the throat, dysphagia, a sore throat.... Additionally serious infections can present with fever. However the hallmark symptom for Strep is the white patches of pus and purulent that will appear on the tonsils near the back of the throat (the Adenoids will be swollem, and so will other lymph nodes). A diffinitive test is the rapid stress test and if not definitive a throat culture.
