  • The U.S. Constitution served as a model for the French Constitution of 1791: The French Constitution of 1791 was the first major law of France, a direct result of the Revolution of 1789 and incorporates the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, within the constitutionalist principle of imposing limits to the real power. The document had strong inspiration in the United States Constitution.
  • The American Revolution offered precedents for Latin American revolutionaries: The US independence movement had a model character for the South Americans, who realized that the independence of a powerful metropolis was possible. And at that time England was more powerful than Spain [and Portugal].  That is, if the Americans had managed to break away from England, it was believed that for the South Americans it would even be easier to become independent of a weakened Spain.
