The Hellenistic period begins with the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC and end with the conquest of the Greek world by the Romans. The art of this period is called Hellenistic. Hellenistic art is richly diverse in subject matter and in stylistic development and for the first time, there were museums and great libraries. Rome became a leading center of the arts and was an influential kingdom during the Hellenistic period. It was a center of Hellenistic art production, and numerous Greek artists came there to work.
