Workers with more education and training generally get paid higher wages because they are more prepared to do skilled or professional work. For example, journeymen mechanics and electricians who went through an apprenticeship program including both on the job and in school training to qualify them will earn much better wages than just casual labourers.
Those who have been fortunate enough to go to university or college and get an academic degree to qualify them as a professional in their chosen field also have a definite advantage in the workplace. They should be able to work either as an employee say in something like mine engineering or as an architect or work for consultants and would most likely be making decisions that have a significant economic impact so should be compensated accordingly.,
