Sam was home one night when the lights went out during a thunderstorm. He was looking in the kitchen closet for a flashlight to help him see, but it was hard to find the flashlight in the dark without using a flashlight! His circumstances struck Sam as pretty funny.

The answer is situational irony. This is because the irony is specific to only this situation. Verbal irony could be similar to a play on words and historucal irony as an answer has no revelence therefore those answers are out. Dramatic irony does not apply to the situation either.
