Pedigreesymbols are used to construct pedigree charts that show the order of occurrence and appearance of particular genes of organisms and their ancestors.
The pedigree symbols are constructed using basic shapes wherein a square is used to represent a male and a circle is used to represent a female.
The squares and circles can then be differentially shaded or filled depending on the type of characteristics that have to be shown linked to it.
In the case of a female being a carrier of X linked recessive trait a circle with a dot is used (see the attached image).
A circle is used to represent a female and the dot represents a carrier.
