Before 1928, scientists believed that all organic compounds only came from living organisms. The word organic itself came from the word organism/s. This gave way to the old theory of "Vitalism" where scientists have long believed that synthesis of living organisms can be a way to harvest organic compounds. It was later proven that such is not true because of the presence of urine, an inorganic compound found within organisms.
Answer:
living organisms
Explanation:
The word organic comes from Greek word "organikos "which relates to an organ.
Earlier it was thought that organic compounds are related to only living matter. It was thought that the compounds cannot be synthesized outside living organism.
But later on after synthesis of urea in 1828 from inorganic compounds lead to end of the myth.
Then, organic compounds were confined to hydrocarbons, later it was also extended to other compounds containing heteroatoms like nitrogen, sulfur, oxygen.
