Weathering is the process by which rock particles are broken down into small pieces. There are three basic types of weathering, these are physical, chemical and biological weathering. Another name for physical weathering is mechanical weathering. Mechanical weathering refers to the breaking down of rock particles as a result of mechanical forces and actions of wind, water, temperature fluctuations, etc.
