Good examples are CO and CO2, which are gasses, usually formed as the result of combustion (fire).
Other good examples are hydrocarbons - compounds containing carbon and hydrogen. Examples are Methane (CH4), Propane (C3H8) Propane Accessories (King of the Hill Joke, but seriously, it's a safe bet that there would be carbon in at least some propane accessories)
Proteins contain carbon, as do carbohydrates (sugars and starches) C6H12O6 = Sucrose (table sugar)
