Representatives from the national standards organizations of member nations make up the International Organization for Standardization, an international organization that develops standards. Article 3 of the ISO Statutes outlines the qualifications for membership.
As of November 2022, over 24,500 international standards encompassing nearly every facet of technology and production have been published by ISO since its founding on February 23, 1947. To handle the creation of standards, it has 809 technical committees and subcommittees. In all technical and nontechnical domains besides electrical and electronic engineering, the organization creates and publishes standards. As of 2022, it operates in 167 nations from its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. English, French, and Russian are the three official languages of the ISO.
