Ivanhoe is the novel written by Scottish writer, Sir Walter Scott and published in 1819. Ivanhoe is a novel meant to romanticize the England of the Middle Ages, specifically, the England of the 12th century and it depicts all the social characteristics and political factors that affected the country at that time. In this excerpt taken from it, the narrator is initiating the storytelling, guiding the reader into the setting and environment in which the story will take place and also the characteristics that will frame the entire story, such as the social, political and economical characteristics of the England of the time.

In question 1, answer is correct. B. The narrator is literally positioning the reader in time and place.

Question 2, Answer is correct. B. Richard I was the king mentioned in the story as being the one awaited to return by the people. The other two kings mentioned are in regards to times before Richard I.
