The bill of rights were the amendments proposed by James Madison. These are-

  • First Amendment-

"Congress shall make no law honoring an establishment of religion, or freedom of religion; or curtailing the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people to peacefully assemble, and to petition the Government".

  • Second Amendment-

The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be banned.

  • Third Amendment-

"Protection against housing soldiers in civilian homes. No Soldier shall barge in any house, without the consent of the Owner; but in a manner to be prescribed by law".

  • Fourth Amendment-

"The right of the people to be safe in their persons, houses, papers. Protection against unreasonable search and seizure and Protection against the issuing of warrants without probable cause".

  • Fifth Amendment-

"Protection against trial without indictment, double jeopardy, self-incrimination and property seizure without any due process of law".

  • Sixth Amendment-

In all criminal prosecutions, an accuse has -Right to a speedy trial ,Right to be informed of charges, Right to be confronted by witnesses, Right to call witnesses ,Right to a legal counsel.

  • Seventh Amendment-

In lawsuits , where the value in case shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved.

  • Eighth Amendment-

"Protection against excessive bail ,excessive fines, cruel and unusual punishment. Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted".

  • Ninth Amendment-

"The listings in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others, retained by the people".

  • Tenth Amendment-

"The powers are not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor are prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people".
