This was an agreement that was signed by President Andrew Jackson into law. The Indian removal act required that the Indians in the country give up their ancestral lands for the whites to settle.

This act would obviously affect them adversely in a lot of ways.

  • They lost their heritage.
  • They lost their homes.
  • They moved to start over elsewhere
  • The ones that defied the law were forcefully removed.
