"Provide a counterexample for the statement in paretheses. "If a figure has four sides, then it is a square."
ANSWER:
"If it is not a square, then the figure does not have for sides" Do I have this right or wrong ? Please tell me the right answer if wrong!

Respuesta :

I would presume in this situation your answer would be correct, even though the one in parentheses isn't...as diamonds have 4 sides as well as rectangles etc.
A counterexample disproves another statement.

I doesn't mean 'opposite'.

I would say, instead, "if a figure has four sides, it is a four-sided figure (or quadrilateral)"
