a step farther was the answer for mine after the math equations taking out all other letters in the puzzle.

The correct answer for this question is that the doorstep's relation to a doormat is disjoint exclusive. The doorstep can still be there without the doormat; and the doormat can exist without the doorstep. So, we can say that they are disjoint.
