Hip hop is described as a distinct yet broad style of dancing consisting of usually fast paced moves. Not only has hip hop and other fast paced dancing impacted society with its energetic movements. Why has hip hop been commercialized? Well, imagine a perfume ad, they’re usually slow paced and calm. Even though these are common ads, they’re set to a specific target audience. Meanwhile, hip hop is fast paced, energetic, and usually seen as more “impressive” and groundbreaking when done correctly. On top of that, the younger generation is a main target audience for advertisers. So, using impressive hip hop moves to advertise something as simple as sofa may attract more younger viewers, just because the commercial’s dancing was remarkable. Of course, the negative impact of all of this is the erasure of other types of dance, and the overuse of the same commercial tactics.
