Jerome and Hani got up early on Saturday morning and decided to make "breakfast in bed" for their mother. While reaching for the bed tray in the back of the hall cabinet, they accidentally bumped, and broke, one of their mother’s favorite porcelain dolls. Jerome KNEW that he is going to get into "big trouble"; and, he thought that he SHOULD get into big trouble. Hani told him not to worry because Mom would understand that it was an accident. Piagets stages or moral development includes the Heterogeneous morality and autonomous morality

  • Heterogeneous morality occurs between 4-7 years. Here, Justice and rules cannot be changed or be removed by people. Children in this stage judges if behavior is right or wrong by looking into the consequences and not intentions. Example is breaking 4 plates accidentally is worse than breaking one intensionally

  • Autonomous morality occurs between 10 ana above. Individuals here are more aware of rules made. They judge intentions and also consequences and also knows punishment only happens if anyone has witnessed it when it occurred.

Conclusively, Heterogeneous morality looks more into consequences that intentions while autonomous morality views the both.
