Holly made fruit punch for an office party a few months ago; she used 1 gallon of strawberry juice and 3 gallons of watermelon juice, which cost her a total of $8. For today’s party, she used 3 gallons of strawberry juice and 2 gallons of watermelon juice, spending a total of $10. How much does a gallon of each type of juice cost?

I know the equation, but not the answer sorry,

x+3y=8
3x+2y=10

then you would subtract 3y from that side so you now have

x=-3y+8

then you would place that into the equation ender it so
3(-3y+8)+2y=10
distribute
-9y+24+2y=10
add like terms
-7y+24=10
subtract 24 from both sides
-7y=-14
divide by 7 on both sides
y=2
and since a negative divided by a negative is a positive the answer is positive 2
then plug it back in to find x
x + 6=8
subtract 6 from both sides
x=2
so there you have it
x=2
y=2
