Places closer to the equator are warmer than places far from it because the equator is closest to the sun. People with lightskin do not possess a lot of melanin(the pigment in the upper layer of the skin that causes it to be darker) and this pigment protects the cells in the lower layers of the skin beneath it from too much UV rays which cause sunburns and other issues. Because people with ligthskin have limited melanin in the skin, it is easier and doesn't take long for the UV rays to penetrate that little amount of melanin protecting the lower skin and damage the skin cells underneath it. The cells can burn, be completely destroyed or even worse, develop cancer.
