Aristotle divided ethos into issues of intelligence, character, and goodwill. Which quality is most important to you when you hear a speech? Why?

Goodwill because it is about compassion and feelings. Intelligence doesn’t matter if you don’t have goodwill. Character is reflected off of goodwill and character builds off of it.

Ethos is gotten from Greek which means character and is used to describe the various things that make up a person and a society.

Therefore, Aristotle divided ethos into:

  • Intelligence: This simply means the general ability of a person to be able to think critically
  • Character: This means the way a person  behaves
  • Goodwill: This means having a friendly disposition towards others or wishing them well

Therefore, the quality that is most important to me when i am hearing a speech is goodwill. This is because, I enjoy when a person is friendly towards other people and wants to see them do well.
