Find Carissa's salary when she sells $3,700 worth of merchandise.

Let the base pay be x, and the % commission be y, then
x + 600y = 408 . . . (1)
x + 900y = 462 . . . (2)

(1) - (2) => -300y = -54
y = -54/-300 = 0.18

From (1), x + 600(0.18) = 408
x = 408 - 108 = 300.

Thus, she is payed a basic saraly of $300 and an 18% commission on sales.

When she sells $3,700 her saraly will be $300 + 0.18(3700) = $966.
