Answer:
Oh Maria.
She looked as beautiful as the day she left me. I remember that day like it happened yesterday. She made this barely audible comment on "Going to get milk" as she went out the door. I saw her, through the window, getting in to her car and taking off. I didn't see her for a month, after that.
But there she was.
Out of all places she could've been at, my dearest Maria, she was strolling among the tombstones. The graveyard was warmer and sunnier than usual, which was actually kind of fitting. The shining sun seemed to say "Go get her, tiger." as the wind quietly cheered with praises of "reunited love."
Today was the day I would finally see the love of my life again.
Little by little, bit by bit, I worked up the courage to walk towards her. She was examining a tombstone as she noticed me; she gave me one of her signature grins.
How I loved that grin.
"Maria?" I asked, my heart pounding at the speed of a jet plane.
"Yes, Alfonso," she said. "I was wondering when you'd find out."
I reached out my hand to touch her hair. I felt nothing. She shut her eyes and shook her head "no" in a joking way.
"So it's true," I said. "You... you... oh Maria. Who-what did this to you?"
She stroked her chin, confused. "I don't remember, to be honest." She stared blankly at me, but I could tell an idea formed in her head. "Do you want to see my tombstone?"
Oh Maria; always good for a laugh.
