The nervous system (NS) is responsible for the control of all the organs and functions of the body. The neuron is the functional unit of this system, allowing the transmission of information through nerve impulses, generated by the difference in potential of its cell membrane.

NS is divided into:

Central nervous system (CNS) —where the brain, spinal cord and other structures are located— in charge of receiving, processing and sending information.
Peripheral Nervous System (PNS), a network of nerve fibers in charge of receiving the stimuli and conducting the information to and from the CNS.

The integration of both NSC and NSP allows an organism to fulfill all its functions, both voluntarily and involuntarily.
