The reason why Israel is involved in so much hot water in terms of relations in the Middle East is an extremley complicated answer, so consider what I am about to say as a gross simplification. The main controvery stems back all the way to 1948, with its very founding, as the land of which Israel claimed to be their own was also inhabitated by Palestinians Arabs who saw the takeover as direct persecution. The UN would recognize Israel as an official state in 1949. After a short-lived war in 1967, Israel managed to fend off against neighboring Arab States such as Jordan and Egypt and assert dominance in the area. While there has been attempts at peace through giving areas such as the Gaza Strip and the Western Bank to Palestinian authorities, both still claim a historical and spiritual right over the entire area. While relations have gotten better with some of the Arab States (Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, Egypt), most of the countries in the Arab League, an organization of countries in the area, still ban all Israeli passport holders from entering their countries alongisde banning anybody with evidence of traveling to Israel to their country.
