Why was the Battle of Yorktown such a devastating defeat for the British?

It was their first defeat in years.
It led to French entry into the war.
Casualties were enormously high.
The British lost an entire army.

The American armies were seen as the underdog, and wouldn't win the Revolutionary War. But, the Battle of Yorktown was so devastating for the British because the American army fought back. They fought back so hard that the British army was forced to surrender.
