The Constitution of the United States was first based on inalienable rights granted to us not just by our government, but as human beings by G-d. The idea was a framework for a system to protect the liberties of the common people, and to ensure that our country would remain the beacon of freedom for the world. What makes us different is our rights as Americans are inalienable, this means that they cannot be taken away. Otherwise we would be no different than Iran or North Korea and would live in a state of oppression.
