Empressarios were the person who were granted the rights to settle on the land in exchange to recruit and settle the areas of Coahuila y Tejas in the beginning of nineteenth century. It is the Spanish word for entrepreneur.

Empressarios attracted immigrants form the southern United states to Texas and also encouraged the spread of the slavery into this territory. Stephen F Austin, Samuel May Williams and Green Dewitt were some famous empressarios.
