Types of assessments;

It is a test to measure maximum oxygen consumption by the body during exercise. It isgenerally done on a treadmill. The person to be assessed is made to stand on a treadmill with his/ her face mask attached to two long tubes. These tubes are attached to the oxygen tanks which in turn are linked to a computer through wires. As the difficulty level in the treadmill increases, the amount of oxygen used by the body also increases which is finally measured through the computer. Higher the amount of oxygen used, more efficiently the cardiorespiratory system functions.  

2. Beep test

This test also measures the fitness of the cardiovascular system. It is a multi-stage test in which a person runs in a track interrupted with orange cones at regular intervals. The person runs from one cone to another at the sound of a beep. The beep starts to come faster at intervals as the speed of the person increases. When the person quits running, the test ends.

3. Bruce Protocol Treadmill Test

It is a more intense assessment to verify if a person has lung or heart problems. This test is also performed on a treadmill with the athlete’s chest attached to the electrocardiograph through wires. While running, the difficulty level is increased with time. The test measures oxygen consumption as well as the heart rate of the person being tested.

These tests assess the utilization of different muscles of the body as well as different exertion levels. Walking is less intensive as compared to running, and steeping upwards and downwards continuously uses different muscles than simply walking. The different fitness assessments provide a clear picture of the factors that might affect an individual's cardiorespiratory fitness.
