Tara is the editor of the school newspaper. She tries to devote about 1/2 of the paper to news, 1/3 to pictures, and the remainder to advertising. About how much of the paper is devoted to news and pictures?

So basically, all you need to do is add the two fractions: 1/2 & 1/3.

If you do not not know how to add fractions, all you need to do is find a common denominator. In this case, the common denominator is 6. Now, the question becomes:

3/6 + 2/6 =
5/6
