The Aborigines in Australia were a subject of a systemically performed genocide for a long period of time. That led to significant decrease in their populations, loss of their land, loss of their sacred sites, loss of their culture, and even their gene-pool. Only small percentage of the Aboriginal population managed to keep its traits, both cultural and genetic, and after the Australian government finally saw that it was making something terrible toward the indigenous people, it started to turn things around. In order to try and make up for the past injustices, the Aborigines were granted all rights and were made equal.
