The trade networks were always created and managed by the powers who most benefited from them (e.g. The European powers with the trade networks in Indochina reagion, in Asia). It usually ended up in genocide and slavery of native communities that inhabited logistic points of interest for the network (not necessarily the starting or end points of the trade), but it would always benefit both ends.
