The fertile South American lowlands, called the Pampas region, cover 750,000 km. The Pampas are vast plains that extend westward across central Argentina from the Atlantic coast to the Andean foothills. They support extensive agriculture and cattle grazing. Cattle were brought to Argentina by Spanish conquistadors, in the 16th century. Due to the fertile geography of the Pampas the cattle multiplied rapidly.
