The Declaration of Independence was important because America at the time had not been equipped with the proper equipment whereas England was a global superpower (the biggest since the Roman Empire) The Declaration had been a new idea too, the fighting wasn’t originally to gain independence. The Declaration said the the Americans were prepared to fight for their rights and possibly die for them.
