There are series of steps which are involved in solving a problem specially if we talk in engineering background. The answer of the problem can sometimes be the manufacturing of a specific machine that can solve the problem.

This process will not be followed if our problem depends on formulation of a hypothesis from observation, because that is a separate scientific method. However, if we are working on a project that requires the designing and testing of a solution, by following proper engineering protocols, then the process will be this.

1) Identifying a problem: It is important that we have a proper understanding about the nature of our problem and not just have a vague idea.

2)Explore: It simply means doing some background research. For example, if we are working on group project that has to build a tower, we have to research about certain things, shape of the tower, best protocol to follow etc.

3) Design: Designing can be taken in terms of formulating a sketch that how problem needs to be addressed. For instance, taking again the previous example, the design of a tower students need to work on.

4)Build: It involves evaluating the possible solutions and building a prototype based on the solutions and considered design.

5)test: We need to test our prototype our machine in several ways to find out in which position, in which conditions it performs best. So the process of identifying those ideal conditions is testing.

6) Improve: It is the process of implementing all the information we learnt from the testing process. Rebuilding of the prototype in an improved form based on our testing experience is covered under improving.
