Let’s say you have the problem 12 divided by 3, you would have to think how many times can you fit 3 into 12? You can fit 3 into 12 4 times. But let’s say you have a number like 10 divided by 3, three won’t evenly fit into 10. So what you would do is put 3 as far as you can without going over 10. It would only fit 3 times leaving you with 1 remaining number. So the answer would end up being 3 remainer 1.

Hope this helps!

Dividing an amount by 3 is splitting it into 3 equal parts assuming one value of such parts.

Suppose the given amount is 300.

Then dividing 300 by 3 will result in 100 since 100 + 100 + 100 = 3

Suppose the given amount is 310.

Then dividing it by 3 will go like below:

310 = 300 + 10

= (100 + 100 + 100) + (3 + 3 + 3) + 1

Thus dividing 310 by 3 will give us 100 + 3 as quotient and 1 as remainder because 1 can't be divided further as multiple of 3 (if we use integers only).

Example: 13 divided by 3 gives 4 as quotient and 1 as remainder because

13 = 1 + 3(4).
