Lena is going to rent a truck for one day. There are two companies she can choose from, and they have the following prices.

Company A charges $111 and allows unlimited mileage.
Company B has an initial fee of $75 and charges an additional $0.90 for every mile driven.

For what mileages will Company A charge less than Company B?
Use m for the number of miles driven, and solve your inequality for m.

Company B = 75 + 0.90m ( 75 plus 0.90 per mile)

Set the 2 to equal and solve for m ( miles)

111 = 75 + 0.90m

Subtract 75 from each side:

36 = 0.90m

Divide both sides by 0.90:

m = 36 / 0.90

m = 40

At 40 miles both Company A and Company B would cost the same.

So for Company A to cost less than Company B, you would have to drive more than 40 miles.
