The recommendations I would make is that remember that these prisoners are human beings and still be treated humanly. I would also recommend for him to actually make a difference instead of just guide and watch show an interest you will gain respect this way.
Although the answer before mine is good, if we be real, they probably wouldn't care that their "still humans." So I believe that they would recommend newly convicted criminals with advice on how to cope and survive. Consultants will advise prison-bound clients to stay low and avoid other cell mates. Also they can help the warden make preparatory work for sentencing.
