Quantifying biomass will depend on the quantity of the biomass and what is being measured. Biomass is the mass of living biological organisms in a given area, species or community at a specified time, which include plants, microorganism or animals. The mass can be expressed as the average mass per unit area in the community.

For example, if you want to quantify an algae, you can use the quadrant method. The 25X25 CM quadrant will be placed on the intertidal rocky surfaces randomly, then collect the algae present in the quadrant.

Next, remove all epiphytes and debris and cleaned properly. After this method, dry it on the oven or under shade. In 4 quadrant samples, the average monthly values are expressed as gram dry wt/m 2.

Furthermore, the collection of the samples must be done in 12 months to accurately get the biomass data.
