Civil liberties refers to the basic rights that are due to an individual because that person is a human being. Protected civil liberties of individuals include the following: freedom of speech, freedom of religion, right to privacy, right to fair trial, right to marry, right to vote, etc. In the United States, civil liberties are protected by the national constitution and the bill of right.
