we are given two forces

[tex]f_2=(8.2,-7.7)[/tex]

Since, force are vector quantities

so, when we add two vectors , we add x-components with x-components

and y-components with y-components

so, we get

[tex]f_1+f_2=(8.6,3.8)+(8.2,-7.7)[/tex]

[tex]f_1+f_2=(8.6+8.2,3.8-7.7)[/tex]

[tex]f_1+f_2=(16.8,-3.9)[/tex]

so, x-component is 16.8.............Answer
