Ok so there are 100 cm in a m and there are 10 mm in a cm so if we have 400 mm divide that by 10 and we get 40 cm so now we have a total of 125 cm now remember 100 cm = 1 m so we have 2 m and 25 cm and that's the total length that the frog jumped do you understand?
The total length of the frogs three jumps was 2.25 m
Further explanation
Some units of length and its conversion that need to be recalled are:
[tex]1 ~ foot = 30.48 ~ cm[/tex]
[tex]1 ~ inch = 2.54 ~ cm[/tex]
[tex]1 ~ foot = 12 ~ inches[/tex]
[tex]1 ~ mile = 1609.34 ~ metres[/tex]
[tex]1 ~ yard = 0,9144 ~ metres[/tex]
[tex]1 ~\mu m = 1 \times 10^{-6} ~ m[/tex]
[tex]1 ~ \text{US liquid gallon} = 3.78541 ~ litres[/tex]
Some units of time and its conversion that need to be recalled are:
[tex]1 ~ month = 30 ~ days[/tex]
[tex]1 ~ day = 24 ~ hours[/tex]
[tex]1 ~ hour = 60 ~ minutes[/tex]
[tex]1 ~ minute = 60 ~ seconds[/tex]
Let us now tackle the problem !
Given:
distance of first jump = d₁ = 1 meter
distance of second jump = d₂ = 85 centimeters
distance of third jump = d₃ = 400 millimeters
Unknown:
total distance = d = ?
Solution:
This problem is about conversion unit of length.
We have to recall that :
[tex]\boxed {1 \ m = 100 ~ cm}[/tex]
[tex]\boxed {1 \ m = 1000 ~ mm}[/tex]
[tex]\text{Total Distance} = d = d_1 + d_2 + d_3[/tex]
[tex]d = 1 ~ m + 85 ~ cm + 400 ~ mm[/tex]
[tex]d = 1 ~ m + \frac{85}{100} ~ m + \frac{400}{1000} ~ m[/tex]
[tex]d = 1 ~ m + 0.85 ~ m + 0.4 ~ m[/tex]
[tex]d = 2.25 ~m[/tex]
