The Romans saw their opposition as a threat to the Empire's future.
They feared that this belief will spread and eventually lead a riot against the Emperor.
Their thinking comes from the fact that Romans wanted absolute allegiance to the state a.k.a the Emperor. But Christians' and Jews' saw this as Emperor = God and opposed that.
