How will the Air Quality Flag Program impact the community?
Everyone is affected when the air is unhealthy - especially older adults, children, and teens, people with lung disease, and those working outside. By implementing the Air Quality Flag Program we can reduce the number of respiratory exacerbations related to air quality in the Jamestown area. Residents would know when to do less intense activities outside, if more breaks are need when they must be outside, when it would be better to go inside, and if residents should reschedule events (AirNow, 2015). By having the information reported from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency we would know which flag to fly and this information would give us an idea of how many in the community could be affected. We cannot change our rate of growth with the aging population, but we can change the number or recurrent calls related to air quality. The Air Flag Program flags would give an idea of what the call volume could be and to be adequately prepared for call volumes.
