Revote in Riverside
Riverside Courier
Riverside, New York-After only two days of deliberation, Riverside's city council has decided to hold a second mayoral
election. This decision goes up against intense opposition from the team of incumbent Mayor Tanya Suarez, who defeated
Council Member John Roark in the bid for mayor.
According to several voters, voting machines at Greene High School were not operating properly on the morning of November
5, the day of Riverside's mayoral election. Voters were told to "come back later." Unfortunately for many, the machines were still
not working that afternoon. Éven worse, many voters could not return. Unable to cast their ballots, they called City Hall.
"I was enraged when I realized voters were being turned away at the polls," said Council Member Roark. "This election does
not represent the opinions of Riverside's population."
The city council excluding Mayor Suarez and Council Member Roark-debated whether to hold another election. Amid
several petitions, phone calls, faxes, and e-mails, the city council was swayed. The second election for Riverside's mayor will be
held November 17.
